Job Description:
Feasibility Study Geologist - Saudi Arabia
About Saudi Gold Refinery
Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is a Saudi mining and precious-metals company specialized in the refining of gold and precious metals, bullion production, and value-added precious-metal services. Operating within the Kingdom's mining value chain, SGR is aligned to the Vision 2030 mining pillar and to the regulatory framework set by the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (MIM) and applicable Saudi and international standards. We produce responsibly sourced, traceable, and certified bullion, operate to LBMA Good Delivery and ISO-aligned quality standards, and invest in the people, processes, and controls behind every bar we produce.
Role Overview
Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is seeking a Feasibility Study Geologist in Saudi Arabia to lead the technical evaluation of our exploration assets and pre-feasibility projects. This role converts geological data from the Arabian Shield into robust resource models that support investment decisions aligned with Vision 2030 mining pillar objectives. The position ensures that all geological assumptions in feasibility studies comply with international reporting standards and Saudi regulatory requirements. It serves as the technical bridge between exploration field teams and the corporate strategy unit to validate mineral wealth monetization potential.
The Feasibility Study Geologist will report directly to the Feasibility Study Director and will play a key role in defining the economic viability of SGR's mineral assets. This position impacts the company's growth trajectory by ensuring accurate resource estimation and risk assessment for downstream refining integration.
Key Responsibilities
The following responsibilities define the core accountabilities for this position.
Resource Modeling and Estimation
The role constructs and validates 3D geological models using industry-standard software to define mineralized zones within the Arabian Shield terranes. The position applies geostatistical methods to estimate tonnage and grade for gold and base metal deposits in accordance with international reporting codes.
Feasibility Study Input
The role provides detailed geological inputs for pre-feasibility and feasibility studies, including ore body geometry and variability. The position collaborates with metallurgists to define ore domains that optimize refining throughput and recovery rates in SGR's processing plants.
Regulatory Compliance
The role ensures that all technical reports submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources meet current Saudi mining law requirements. The position prepares documentation that supports license applications and retention criteria for over 200 exploration permits under review.
Technical Due Diligence
The role conducts technical due diligence on third-party assets to verify geological data and resource potential for acquisition targets. The position identifies and quantifies geological risks, including grade continuity issues and structural complexities, for investment committees.
Data Management Integrity
The role maintains strict chain-of-custody protocols for drill core samples to ensure data integrity for audit purposes. The position oversees the compilation and validation of geological databases to support JORC or NI 43-101 compliant resource estimates.
Stakeholder Engagement
The role engages with the Saudi Geological Survey to align SGR's exploration data with national geological mapping initiatives. The position supports the HSE team in assessing environmental baseline conditions related to geological features and water resources.
Team Mentorship
The role mentors junior geologists and technical staff on data integrity standards and resource modeling techniques. The position develops training modules to build internal capability in SGR's geological evaluation processes.
Risk Mitigation
The role evaluates geological risks related to mine planning, including geotechnical stability and hydrogeological conditions. The position recommends targeted drilling programs to reduce uncertainty in key ore zones based on historical data gaps.
Qualifications
- The candidate holds a Bachelor's degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a related field from an accredited university.
- The candidate possesses a minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration and resource estimation, with at least 5 years in gold projects.
- The candidate demonstrates proven expertise in constructing geological models and performing resource estimates using software such as Datamine, Surpac, or Micromine.
- The candidate has extensive knowledge of JORC, NI 43-101, or SAMREC codes for public reporting of mineral resources and reserves.
- The candidate exhibits strong understanding of the geology of the Arabian Shield, particularly the Neoproterozoic terranes and shear zones.
- The candidate shows experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and coordinating with external consultants for feasibility studies.
- The candidate possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to prepare technical reports for executive review.
- The candidate demonstrates a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship in all field and office-based activities.
Preferred / Nice-to-have
- The candidate holds a Master's degree or PhD in Economic Geology, Geostatistics, or a related discipline.
- The candidate has prior experience working with gold refining operations or downstream value chain integration.
- The candidate possesses professional certification as a Competent Person under JORC or an equivalent international standard.
- The candidate has experience in Arabic language proficiency to facilitate engagement with local regulatory bodies and communities.
- The candidate demonstrates familiarity with SASO standards and LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance requirements.
Success Metrics
- The role delivers updated resource estimates for two pre-feasibility assets that meet independent competent person review standards.
- The position establishes a standardized geological data management protocol adopted across all fifteen exploration projects.
- The role completes technical due diligence for at least two potential acquisition targets, providing clear go/no-go recommendations.
- The position reduces geological uncertainty in key ore zones by integrating new drilling data into refined 3D models.
- The role secures regulatory approval for updated exploration licenses by submitting compliant technical reports to MIM.
- The position develops a succession plan for junior geologists, including training modules on SGR's modeling standards.
- The role achieves zero non-conformities in geological data audits conducted by internal or external reviewers.
